Inspired by true events.

I tend to imagine the second panel filled with various disgusting sound effects… On a meta note, this was about as far as I got before the odd little details started to creep into my strips (there are tendencies towards it in ’BtB Hits the Sack’ too). E.g. the torch being held up by a wall-mounted bone arm, or the baddie's robes having ”R’lyeh Cthulhu Fthagn” embrodiered on them.

I've always been a bit on the fence about pointing those things out.  On one hand it feels like I'm explaining the joke(s); on the other hand I was talked into writing a ’Trivia’ section about them in Bernard's compilation book, and it turned out to be quite a popular feature. I guess I'll be making mentions of them as long as they're not too overly obvious.
