The Mirror of Bernard is more bubbly than the Mirror of Galadríel, and tastes better, but it has one drawback. There's no guarantee that you'll remember your visions in the morning. My first all-digital strip! Up until this one they were drawn with ink pens on paper, scanned, and then colored in Photoshop. Coloring them using the mouse was ridiculously slow work so I finally got around to buy a Wacom, and started to use it for the lineart as well. To see how it worked out in print I finished this and sent it to Fenix ahead of a couple of other strips that I'd already started working on, so there will be a few more pen-drawn ones before the digital stuff takes over. (Testing it was a good idea. The scroll in Galadríel's first balloon reads ”ash nazg durbatulûk” which turned out to be unreadable sans high-res zoom, and in print one couldn't see any text there at all.) Special thanx to my wife who, when I wasn't sure what lipstick marks on glass look like more exactly, whipped out her makeup box and provided a live reference. The barwench is a little nod to an earlier strip; she appeared before in ’BtB Doing Business’ as a slave-buying cultist that Bernard bartered away, after she'd bought him. From a strictly legal perspective I guess she could still claim him as her property… Fenix no. 2, 2006 |
