Beer runs deep in Bernard's family.

This is the only appearance of Barbara the Barbarian, but she apparently struck a chord with people. Readers have kept asking me over the years if she would turn up again; some have even suggested that I should do a spin-off Barbara comic strip.

While I can certainly see the appeal in an overweight woman guzzling beer and rescuing sissy princes, I think such a comic would end up just being a clone of the original. After all, the whole point of her is that she and her brother are exactly alike.

Although… 12 years later 3D artist Erik Winbo sent me a really funny homage, featuring a reimagined Barbara who's not a Rule 63 Bernard.  More exactly he made ”a Barbara” in the sense ”a comedic female in a barbarian setting” – and if my little one-off character left that much of an imprint with the readers I can safely say that she did her job.☺
