Motorcycle Mayhem!! Ah yes, you're quite excused if you don't get this one. It's a(nother) piece of internal humor for Swedish tabletop gamers – about my Rubicon's Survival Handbook comic strip, the one that got published instead of Bernard back in '89 (see About). I made it to celebrate the fact that he had now passed the Handbook in terms of number of published strips. The particular strip being referred to is a well-known one from that comic. Unfortunately it's totally untranslatable; its pun is that the English words ”chainmail” and ”crossbow” can be mistaken for the Swedish words for ’chain letter’ and ’dirtbike’. (Player: ”Are you out of your mind?!” DM, reading an English adventure module: ”But it says right here the guard has a dirtbike and wears chain letters...”) Projecting that chaos onto Bernard I figured he'd have nothing against near-naked bikers as long as they're female.
The guy on the left in the 4th panel is seen reading the Survival Handbook compilation book where Bernard made his first appearance. The DM is me, back when I was slim and pretty; my self-inserts were a familiar sight for Handbook readers. Btw, this is the last strip where the lineart was drawn on paper. From here on it's all digital. Fenix no. 3, 2006 |
